The initial draft of the Book, Lyrics and Music
for Lyssi was completed in 2006 after which a CD was produced at BW
Music’s studio in Villeneuve, near Avigon,
France. Many talented performers and musicians were involved under the
direction of composer Eric Breton.
It is exciting to be able to report
that interest in the show is growing not only because of the World’s
current state of warmongering, but because of the timeless accessibility
of both the narrative and score.
At the end of 2007 discussions were
held with Emir Nuhanovic, director of the renowned Sarajevo Philharmonic
Orchestra as well as with the French Embassy in Bosnia, about a semi
staged concert presentation of ‘Lyssi’.
This was most appropriate as Sarajevo is one of the world ‘Peace
Cities’. The performance date was set for 1st July, which, again,
was appropriate as on this day the French took over the presidency of
the EU.
Gladly the event, attended by around one thousand people, was
deemed a tremendous success and doors have been opened for further concerts
now that a full orchestral score exists.
Meanwhile the writers are exploring
various routes to bring the full show to the stage. Sufficiently adaptable
is the piece that it could be produced with a cast of eight and five
musicians with simple, but imaginatively effective sets made from a variety
of drapes for easy transport between different venues – alternatively
a larger production of twelve in the cast, plus ensemble and an orchestra.
The
eponymous role of Lyssi will challenge a performer both vocally and as
an actress.
